COVID-19

The following COVID-19 safety measures have compiled in accordance with the Scottish Government‘s advice for tourism related businesses.  On this basis Dark Island Guided tours have been awarded accreditation on the Scottish Government’s Good to Go scheme.

Physical Distancing

Information will be given verbally regarding health and safety, physical distancing and hygene. Effort shall be made to ensure there is no unintended impact upon those with a disability or caring responsibilities.

There will be a limit of 8 people on any one tour.

Prior to commencement of tour, customers should remain at least 2 metres apart from each other with the exceptions of those who are in the same household or those who have a disability along with their carer.

Whilst moving from one place of interest to another, customers should remain in single file with the exception of children and those with disabilities along with their carer.

Constant review will be made of local authority street management plans to see how this could effect social distancing efforts.

Where physical proximity or contact is necessary and cannot be avoided appropriate mitigation measures will be employed such as wearing face masks and sanitising hands.

Hygiene

Customers should be encouraged to use contactless or
cashless payment where possible.

Customers will be advised about santising hands and coughing etiquette prior to commencement of tour.

Customers will be advised of where toilets are and about the required hygiene and distancing measures consistent the premises’ management regulations.

Methods of Reducing Transmission Risk

Guide shall wear a face visor at all times and disposable gloves when receiving money or exchanging promotional or other items with customers. At such times hand sanitiser will be provided for customer use.

Face masks shall be provided for customer use and encouragement shall be given for them to wear it for the duration of the tour.

Communications

COVID-19 safety measures shall be kept under constant review and shall be made available on web site.

Customers shall be verbally advised of any changes to safety measures prior to commencement of tour.

Reasonable steps shall be taken to ensure that people
with disabilities are informed about new procedures and that they are able to access facilities.

Outdoor space shall be used for breaks where possible.

Additional Measures

If it is supected that a customer may have Covid-19, the tour shall be terminated and all customers advised that they should be tested. Likewise, the guide shall advise health authorities that he or she may have been in contact with an infected person.

It shall be requested that 1 person from each group of customers leave their name and telephone number for contact tracing purposes. These details shall be deleted after a period of 28 days.

In the event of a customer repeatedly ignoring social distancing and/or hygiene rules, he or she will be asked to leave the tour.

In the event of their being a re-imposition of lock down measures to the extent that tours have to be cancelled, customers will be refunded for any bookings they have made.

Customers shall be advised on website and social media how to book a place on the tour in advance and encouraged to do so where possible.

An opted in database shall be kept and previous customers shall be informed of changes to safety measures.

Inspirational and welcoming messages will be given alongside safety information and Good to Go credentials shall be regularly showcased.

Digital Footprint

Website shall be updated to say We’re open along with what COVID-safe
measures have been put in place. Information will also be given on what other local attractions are open.

Google My Business listing and VisitScotland.com web listing will be updated.

Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts will be updated to let your visitors know
when you’re opening and what else is open nearby.

Online training opportunities will be sought out to ensure best practice is maintained regarding safety, digital skills and customer service.
